Airport Transit Visa Requirement for Egyptian Citizens

By ARC Legal Published on: November 07, 2024

Spain will begin requiring an airport transit visa for Egyptian citizens who need to make a stopover in its territory. This decision aims to prevent travelers from using transit through Spanish airports as a means to attempt irregular entry into the country and subsequently apply for asylum.

Below, you can find the list of countries whose citizens are required by the European Union to obtain an airport transit visa, now updated to include this change for Egypt. However, the exact date when Spanish authorities will start enforcing this requirement has not yet been announced.

The airport transit visa allows passengers to remain in the international zone of Spanish airports without entering the country and must be requested at Spanish embassies or consulates in the country of origin. This new requirement for Egyptian citizens follows similar measures recently applied to citizens of Sudan, Chad, Kenya, Senegal, the Central African Republic, and Mozambique, countries that have also experienced an increase in asylum applications in Spain.
