🚨Informative note: Although the Spanish Government announced the launch of the Edubridge to Spain program to attract international students and researchers, no official information has since been published regarding its implementation, regulations, or application procedure.
At ARC Legal, we have contacted several Spanish Embassies and Consulates in the United States, as well as Immigration Offices in Spain, but have not received any official or clarifying response as to whether the program remains active or when it might become operational.
For the time being, our recommendation is to apply for a student visa through the traditional channels established under current Spanish immigration law.
ARC Legal will provide updates through our regular information channels as soon as any official news becomes available.
The Government of Spain, through the Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration, has launched a new initiative called EduBridge to Spain — a fast-track pathway to the Spanish university system aimed at international students affected by recent migration restrictions imposed in the United States. The measure is set to be approved next Tuesday by the Council of Ministers and will begin to apply in the 2025–2026 academic year.
The goal of the program is clear: to offer a safe, agile, and legal university alternative for international students — including Spanish students who have also been affected — whose academic plans have been disrupted by visa suspensions and increased entry controls in the U.S.
⏺️ What does this initiative involve?
EduBridge to Spain offers a simplified, interministerial procedure that enables students to:
- Obtain admission to a Spanish educational institution
- Apply for a student residence permit, which allows them to live and work in Spain from day one
- Process the visa through Spanish consulates in the U.S.
- Move to Spain
- Obtain the Foreigner Identity Card (TIE) upon arrival
⏺️ Who is this initiative for?
The program is tailored for different student profiles:
- Students who have completed secondary education or are in pre-university courses
- University students currently pursuing a degree in the U.S. who wish to continue their studies in Spain
- University graduates seeking to enroll in a master’s program at a Spanish university
In all cases, the process will be flexible and adapted to the student’s academic situation. Conditional recognition of foreign qualifications will be allowed to prevent delays, as well as credit transfers and academic record migration when needed.
⏺️ Institutional coordination to streamline the process
To ensure the fast-track process works efficiently, a dedicated interministerial working group has been created, involving the Ministries of Migration, Education, Universities, Science, Foreign Affairs, and Territorial Policy. Spanish consulates in the U.S. will expedite the visa process, while Government Delegations and the UGE (Large Companies and Strategic Groups Unit) will process residence permits for students, researchers, and faculty.
Once the measure is approved, the government will launch an international information and guidance campaign in collaboration with embassies, consulates, universities, and the Spanish Education Office in the U.S., to support students from the beginning of their relocation to their full integration into the Spanish education system.
