⏺️ Can a document published in the BOE be apostilled?
Yes. Official publications issued in the Official State Gazette (BOE) may be apostilled under the Hague Convention of October 5, 1961 when they are intended to be submitted to authorities or institutions in another country that is a party to the Convention.
The Hague Apostille certifies the authenticity of the signature, the capacity in which the public official has acted, and, where applicable, the authenticity of the official seal or stamp appearing on the document. This allows the document to be recognized abroad without the need for diplomatic or consular legalization.
This type of service is commonly required when an official Spanish publication serves as evidence of a legal fact or status that must be recognized outside Spain.

It is becoming increasingly common for foreign government authorities, universities, courts, and other institutions to request an officially apostilled BOE publication.
Typical examples include professional recognition procedures, court proceedings, administrative applications, academic credential recognition, or any situation in which a foreign authority needs to verify the content of an official Spanish publication.
In many of these cases, simply printing the BOE publication is not sufficient. An official copy must first be obtained and then apostilled before it can be accepted abroad.

The process begins by obtaining the relevant official publication from the Official State Gazette. Once the document has been identified and prepared, the Hague Apostille is issued by the competent Spanish authority.
Depending on the country where the document will be used, a certified translation prepared by a sworn translator officially appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation may also be required.
Although the procedure may seem straightforward, practical issues frequently arise concerning the type of document, the format required by the receiving authority, or the specific legal requirements of the destination country. For this reason, it is advisable to review the documentation carefully before starting the process.
